Pilot testing of Sanitation Safety Plan (SSP) in Devanahalli Town

The SSP trial focused on the Municipal boundary of the Devanahalli Town which is under the jurisdiction of the Devanahalli Town Municipal Council. The objectives of the SSP trial were defined as follows:

  1. To identify risks and mitigate sanitation linked health risks for all stakeholders (Devanahalli community, agricultural workers, sanitary workers and consumers of agri-produce) in Devanahalli Town
  2. To identify sanitation improvements that can be taken up by immediate local action at the town municipal level
  3. To enable the appropriate partnerships with health and agriculture resource partners to enable implementation of the identified improvements

Following the trial, a detailed report and a presentation of the trial and its results were created.

The WHO brought out the Sanitation Safety Plan manual in which learnings from the above trial are incorporated.
