Biome conducted a training workshop for construction professionals on RWH at INSTRUCT on March 18-19, 2016.

Water management for women corporators

Biome conducted a session on water management for women corporators at MGIRED on the occasion of Womens’ Day – March 8, 2016.

RWH training at CDD

A training programme on rainwater harvesting in rural areas was held from February 24-26, 2016 at CASS-CDD Society, Kengeri Satellite Town. 

Workshop for Bhoomi College

Biome Trust was invited by Bhoomi College to conduct a workshop on Water and Sustainability for their students from January 27-29, 2016.

Session at Aditi Mallya School

A session on ‘Our Water’ was conducted for the students of Aditi Mallya School on Jan 20, 2016.

Kaikondrahalli Kere Habba

Biome participated in the Kaikondrahalli Kere Habba on January 9, 2016 with a stall on good water management practices and also helped organise a Community Connect event.

Paper presentations at the 8th INSEE Conference

Biome Trust presented a paper on the Participatory Aquifer Mapping project at the 8th Biennial conference on ‘Urbanization and Environment’ organized by Indian Society for Ecological Economics (INSEE) on January 4-6, 2016. One of the Biome interns also presented a paper.

Session on lakes for BET students

Biome conducted an educational session on lakes for students of Brindavana Educational Trust at Madivala Lake. 

Workshop “My well our water”

As part of the Participatory Aquifer Mapping Project, Biome organised a workshop called ‘My well our water’ on June 27, 2015, with participants from Wipro, ACWADAM, Mapunity, IISc, other organisations and citizens. A brief report of the workshop was also put out.

Lakes – Bioremediation

The program continued into 2015-2016. Lake visits were organized for citizens to those lakes where remediation of sewage water is happening before discharge into the lake. The various systems were compared on the basis of costs, maintenance efforts and space requirements and all details were put up on urbanlakes.org

Participatory Groundwater Mapping programme

The participatory aquifer mapping programme was carried out with participation from all stakeholders. The stakeholders include
1. Government institutions like KSPCB, BWSSB, CGWB , etc
2. Informal sector workers like borewell diggers, tanker operators, STP operators, well diggers, ring makers etc
3. Research institutions
4. Various citizen groups

This was carried out in the Yamalur watershed in and around Sarjapura Road which is an area that is largely not serviced by municipal water supply. Rainwater harvesting as well as usage of the shallow aquifer (where applicable) was encouraged.
