Vishwanath Srikantaiah : Rainwaterclub, won the Namma Bengaluru award in the category of Private Institutions.
Audit of Blind School
In August 2010, Biome architects in collaboration with Kilikili and Artist Sanjay Singh, created a mural at the Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind (SMRAB), Bangalore. The team went back in February 2011 to review the project and get feedback from the founder, teachers and students.
Volunteer day for Walt Disney employees
Biome organised a volunteer day for employees of Walt Disney at Accept Society on Dec 17, 2010. Biome had installed an RWH system at the HIV care centre, and the employees participated in cleaning and painting the RWH filters and cleaning the stormwater drains.
RWH classes at Nammashale
Nammashale School approached Biome to teach rainwater harvesting to the students of 7th and 8th stds twice a week for two hours each.
Facilitating RWH in Pavagada schools
Three students from the USA, David Pierce, Lam Hoang and Nitin Sajankila from Trinity College (Hartford, Connecticut, USA) – recipients of the “Davis Projects for Peace” prize of $10,000, decided to use the grant money to help construct rainwater harvesting systems in 5 schools at Pavagada, Karnataka. This is a fluoride affected region. Biome designed the systems and facilitated the installation through a local NGO.
Community work with students from University of Washington
As part of their ‘Half the Sky – Women and Entrepreneurship’ program, 24 students from the University of Washington led by their professor visited Bangalore and also donated $ 550 towards building and repairing RWH systems in Kurburkunte Village. They spent half a day in the village, painting RWH tanks and installing a rain barrel.
Screening of ‘Mean Sea Level’
A screening of Pradip Saha’s ‘Mean Sea Level’ was organised by Biome at Alliance Francaise on July 16, 2010. It was followed by an interactive session with the audience on climate change.
